With the inception of Maruni in 1928, founder Takeo Yamanaka quickly gained fame as one of the leading experts in the technique of bending wood into precise shapes with the help of steam. In 1933, Maruni Wood Inc. was born, which from then on focused on the industrial production of Japanese furniture and furnishings using the same technique. Since 2010 Maruni has been working with Naoto Fukusawa, who is responsible for such world-famous designs as the Hiroshima Armchair or the "Malta" table series. International designers like Jasper Morrison or Cecilie Manz joined Maruni to expand and spread the philosophy throughout the world.
